This experimental series aims at the measurement of ultimate bearing capacity of two square footings on several cases of homogeneous and two-layered soil deposits. The square footings are of dimensions 15 x 15 cm and 25 x 25 cm respectively. Two cases of homogeneous soil deposits are explored, one consisting of a very dense sand of relative density Dr = 93%, one consisting of sand of medium density Dr = 65% and one of loose sand of Dr = 45 %. Successively, for each of the two cases of poor foundation soil (Dr = 65% and Dr = 45%), shallow soil improvement is employed in order to explore the effectiveness of such a measure. Three cases of soil crusts of increasing depth are investigated, z/B = 0.25, z/B = 0.5 and z/B = 1, where z is the depth of the crust and B the width of the foundation. The key goal of this experimental series is the measurement of FSV values, in order to design future projects.
