LESSLOSS

LESSLOSS : Risk Mitigation for Earthquakes and Landslides (2003-2006)

The LESSLOSS project was an integrated Project formulated by a large number (47) of European Centres of excellence in earthquake and geotechnical engineering in order to mitigate the risk associated with landslides. The Project was funded by the European Commision within the scope of FP6, the Sixth Eupopean Community Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration.

The LESSLOSS Project has addressed natural disasters, risk and impact assessment, natural hazard monitoring, mapping and management strategies, improved disaster prepardness and mitigation, development of advanced methods for risk assessment, methods of appraising environmental quality and relevant pre-normative research.

SGM group, as part of the NTUA team supervised by Prof. Gazetas had significantly contributed to the analytical/numerical part of this project, namely in validating existing, developing and implementing constitutive relationships of soil behavior to predict landslide triggering mechanisms and movements.
